Project actions

As part of the proposed project, research will be carried out by the following methods and research techniques:

  1. Analysis of existing data and literature on the subject – queries in libraries and institutions dealing with migration issues.
  2. Internet survey – a quantitative study of the cultural participation of migrants from Poland in Germany to make an assessment. Sample size: N = 1500. Quota sampling based on the places of residence (Land, i.e. German state) and the durations of stay of the respondents.
  3. Case studies of migrants from Poland in German households focused on the use of media and participation in culture and the response to the activities of the Polish cultural institutions and their messages. As part of the case study strategy, individual in-depth interviews and time budget logs were used. Sample size: N = 21 households. Purposive sampling based on the criterion of maximum differentiation by Land and the duration of stay of household members in Germany.
  4. In-depth interviews with local activists (representatives of German and Polish cultural institutions and individuals responsible for supporting cultural activities in selected locations) on the assessment of the conditions in which cultural institutions perform their activities – including those addressed to migrants from Poland in Germany, evaluation of the activities of Polish cultural institutions in Germany and the factors that affect them. Number of interviews: N = 28. Purposive sampling based on the criterion of maximum differentiation by Land.
  5. A query, collection of a body of texts and an analysis of the content of materials collected from German national and local press, to assess the printed media coverage of cultural events promoting Polish culture (Polish artists, Polish performers) in Germany. Purposive sampling of magazines (5 titles in total, including 2 national titles and 1 local title from selected federal states) and analysis periods (4 years in total).
